    Progest-E- My Favorite Product

    Progest E

    Progest-E:My Favorite product

In the past 40 years we have seen a dramatic rise in female illnesses (endometriosis, osteoporosis, premenstrual syndrome, uterine fibroids, and breast cancer- to name a few). I believe one reason is due to estrogen dominance, a condition where a woman has excessive estrogen, but has little or no progesterone to balance its effects in the body. Why the increase in estrogen? I believe there are many factors including: xenoestrogen, endotoxins, poor diet, use of the birth control pill and hormone replacement therapy (HRT), stress, petrochemicals, lack of light, plus so much more.

That is why right now my favorite product is Progest-E developed by Ray Peat. I believe that this product can truly change a woman’s life. In the early 1980′s, Peat figured out the safest and most effective way to deliver natural progesterone to the body. He perfected his formula, patented this delivery system and named his product Progest-E. At the same time Ray was perfecting his formula, the pharmaceutical industry was busy promoting estrogen as the female hormone. But, Ray knew they were wrong and in fact it is progesterone that is the hormone that protects women.

He was not alone in his findings; Barbara Seaman and Carla J. Rothenberg, two women’s health researchers, wrote extensively on the harmful effects of estrogen. In 2002 a report by the Women’s Health Initiative proved that Ray was right and showed that estrogen could cause health issues for women, including cancer. Those studies also found that progestin, a synthetic form progesterone, was also very harmful to women. Progestin (or “progestogens”) is not natural progesterone. It is the generic name for synthetic progesterone and it has given progestone a bad rap.

In the 1951 companies began to produce a synthetic form of progesterone called progestin. Why would they do this? These companies want something unique to call their own. The drug companies frequently alter molecules so they can patent them. They add different man-made materials and change it so, in the end, the product no longer resembles the molecule made by nature. The altered progestin does not behave the same as natural progesterone and has toxic effects.  This is what is found in “the pill”, Provera, Megastrol, the patch, and many types of birth control.

Any form of progesterone that is not the natural (unaltered) molecule is harmful. Progest-E uses the natural progesterone that is the same molecule made by the human body. The reason Ray Peat was able to patent his natural progesterone formula was due to the unique delivery system that he discovered with vitamin E. In 1980, Ray Peat discovered the extremely high solubility of progesterone in vitamin E alcohols. Vitamin E is essential for human health and has anti-estrogenic effects. It has been described as the “progesterone- sparing agent,” so the combination made perfect sense. Vitamin E and progesterone actually work at the same mitochondrial site. A perfect combination!

By heating the vitamin E and the progesterone together, the progesterone readily dissolves and a stable solution is made. This solution in vitamin E is the fastest, safest, and most efficient way to absorb progesterone to the body. Ray Peat saw how effective this combination was and decided to patent his product Projest-E.

Progesterone dissolved in vitamin E tocopherol (a group of closely related, fat-soluble alcohols), begins entering the blood stream as soon as it contacts any membrane, such as the lips, tongue, gums, or palate. When it is swallowed, it continues to be absorbed as part of the digestive process. When taken with food, its absorption occurs at the same rate as the digestion and absorption of the food. Any other natural progesterone cream is just not the same. Either they do not absorb into the deeper layers of the body or are less than safe. Most creams will just sit on top of the skin and end up getting washed off. Vitamin E is the only solvent that absorbs progesterone effectively which isn’t toxic.

I have heard that the Progest-E (used topically with olive oil or coconut oil) can be applied to the skin to help with:

    • Tendonitis
    • Bursitis
    • Arthritis
    • Sunburn
    • Age spots
    • Varicose veins
    • Rashes
    • Cysts
    • Scars
    • Hemmoiroids
    • Many other skin inflammations or irritations

It can also be used to help migraines (take as soon as symptoms begin), for PMS, Peri-menopausal symptoms such as spotting, osteoporosis, some types of cancer, relieves anxiety, weight loss, uterine cysts, and  fibrocystic  breasts, hypertension, hirsutism, and insomnia. It also has anti-stress effects for the body!

In a 10% solution of progesterone in vitamin E, one drop contains about three milligrams of progesterone. Normally, the body produces 10 to 20 milligrams per day. A dose of 3 or 4 drops usually brings the blood levels up to the normal range, but this dose can be repeated several times during the day if it is needed to control symptoms.

According to Peat, “For general purposes, it is most economical and effective to take progesterone dissolved in vitamin E orally, for example taking a few drops on the lips and tongue, or rubbing it into the gums. (It is good for the general health of the gums.) These membranes are very thin, and the progesterone quickly enters the blood. When it is swallowed, the vitamin E allows it to be absorbed through the walls of the stomach and intestine, and it can be assimilated along with food, in the chylomicrons, permitting it to circulate in the blood to all of the organs before being processed by the liver.”

The only side effect that I can tell from taking too much Progest E is an anesthetic effect: risk of accidental drunkenness or anesthesia is with higher or stronger doses. So I recommend taking it before bed.

Remember, a GOOD DIET can never be overlooked! Progest-E can be very effective in helping with all kinds of issues. However, the truth is: If the diet is insufficient than the Projest-E can be helpful but, only small improvements may be noticed( if any). The combination of adequate amounts of protein, elimination of estrogenic foods (and estrogenic products), the added Progest-E can be life-changing.

I myself use the Progest-E and have found it to be magical in its results. Besides the science, Ray Peat infuses each bottle with his energy. I feel better just having a bottle close by.
